Nippers and Young Guns Program Information

Bancoora’s Mozzie & Nipper programs are all about children and parents having fun while learning about beach safety. The programs give children the opportunity to develop and progress their basic surf lifesaving skills as they progress through the age groups.  It is the start of your child’s journey to becoming safe in the surf, developing into a Young Gun and potentially, a patrolling Surf Life Saver.

The start of the season is only a few months away and preparations for the season are well underway. We are in the process of purchasing new gear and revamping some of our surf education to make the programs run smoothly for parents and children alike. We have Bancoora Nippers public and private Facebook pages and will sending out further details about the upcoming season in the coming weeks. The public page link is as follows: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086099492517&mibextid=LQQJ4d

Nippers induction day will be on Sunday 30 November 2025. This will give Nippers families a chance to refamiliarse themselves with the facilities, ask any questions about the program, purchase a new Rashie and Nippers cap (if needed).

For now, please see the Nippers season dates and preparatory information below.

Volunteering

Nippers is for families (not just the kids!) and is run entirely by volunteers. The program is run by parents of Nippers. As a Nippers parent, it is important you are present and willing to contribute during the program.

Bancoora SLSC runs a small Nippers program, so we need all Nippers parents to pitch in to get everything done. Helping is a great example to your children, and they love having their parents involved.

We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions:

•       Mozzies Coordinators x 3

•       BBQ Coordinators x 2

•       Water safety officers with a current surf lifesaving bronze medallion x 15 (Ratio 1:5)

•       Age group managers (2 parents per age group)

•       Education activity leader

•       Beach Activities leader x 2

•       Time keeper x 2

•       Flags activity leader x 2

•       Beach setup x 3

•       First aid officers x 3

•       Attendance record keepers x 2

Within the Expression Of Interest (EOI) form, you were requested to nominate for a volunteer role. You will be contacted by Garratt and Sarah from the email address Bannynippers@gmail.com prior to 11 Nov 2025, to confirm your allocation.

Sarah and Garratt will provide information and basic training to all volunteers at the Nippers introduction and equipment pickup, so don’t worry if you are not familiar with any of the roles when volunteering.

As per last year we will be adopting a BBQ roster for all Nippers parents that do not volunteer in other roles, so please expect to see your names on the BBQ list a few times if not otherwise engaged. The BBQ coordinators simply have to induct the weekly volunteers at the beginning of each session and help out at the BBQ stall after beach activities are finished.

For those wanting to provide help with water safety, a bronze medallion certificate is required. We have had an excellent response to the two courses held this year, so thank you to all parents who have participated in this important training. You are now Banny legends! Parents that are interested in helping in the water, but do not yet have a Bronze Medallion, can identify themselves to Garratt or Sarah on the day and be allocated to support wade, swim or boards as needed.
